As we age lines and wrinkles may become a concern for many people as collagen is no longer present in the same quantities as before and the skin looses part of its elasticity.
The upper third of the face can be treated with botulinum toxin, which acts by paralysing the muscle and induces long-term relaxation of contracted muscles. It is most effective for treating the deep wrinkles, also known as frown lines between the eyes, the lines across the forehead and crows feet.
For the lower part of the face Restylane and similar fillers can be used to reduce "smile lines, smokers lines and lip enhancements" achieving a fuller and more sensuous form of the mouth, using the body's own natural material (hyaluronic acid), which in the skin creates volume, resulting in a healthy and younger appearance.
The results last from between six to nine months after which a top up is needed.
