Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Most women will at some stage during their reproductive years experience Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). It often takes the form of mood swings, depression, anxiety and irritability. On the physical side bloating, weight gain breast tenderness, general fatigue and headaches, may be present and this can be a very trying time both for the women and her family and friends.

The timing of PMS varies, sometimes the onset only occurs a day before menses, but some women have symptoms, which becomes steadily worse, for the last two weeks of their cycle.

Research has found that the cause of PMS is predominantly an imbalance of oestrogen and progesterone in the later part of the menstrual cycle.
